International Projects 

Chile, Santiago, Colectivo Sustento                              August to September 2015 

 

Arts Council Funded research and develpment project. An International Collaboration with Colectivo Sustento in Chile. The collective was founded in September 2012 in Santiago-Chile, they are a multidisciplinary collective of arts-workers and activists who use theatre and community gardening as tools for social change. Their work takes place in the local community where the garden is located, in prison and juvenile detention.

Brazil, São Paulo                                                                                         April - Nov 2013    

Acer Brasil                                                                                   

Developed and delivered theatre, art, creative movement and yoga workshops with children, young people and adults in a surrounding favela in São Paulo Diadema, with an NGO called Acer in partnership with a UK charity called Charlotte Miller Art who work with disadvantaged children though the arts. Examples of work are below.

 

  • Theatre and art club for children

  • Theatre for social change group for young people

  • Yoga, meditation and creative movement workshops for women

  • English through theatre group

  • Training young people in storytelling and facilitation skills

 

 

Chile, Bolivia, Brasil  Community Theatre Festivals       Between August 2013 to March 2014 

 

Entepola Community Theatre festival (Chile)                                                             Participated in a well-known community theatre festival in Santiago, Chile. I delivered theatre workshops for the community and theatre companies on theatre of the oppressed, creative movement and popular education and performed as part of a roving puppetry performance, called ‘The Birds.’ By Uk company Frolicked 

 

Theatre of the Oppressed Festival (Bolivia)                                                                             Delivered a rainbow of desire workshop for people practising theatre of the oppressed in different parts of Latin America. The workshop was titled  'The bystander: witnessing oppression'. 

 

Community Theatre conference (Brasil)

Delivered a practical workshop about my projects in a favela in São Paulo to other community theatre practioners from different parts of Latin America and the UK

 

 

USA, Vermont                                                                                                              July – Aug 2009

 

Bread and Puppet Theatre                                              

 

5 week apprenticeship with a world famous political puppet theatre company based on a farm in Vermont, USA.   Collaborated with a group of 40 people to devise and perform the weekly circus, dance shows and parades all incorporating different forms of puppetry, mask and circus skills. Examples of work are below. 

 

  • Weekly dance show and junk instrument band

  • Weekly human circus seen by up to one thousand people

  • Created my own side show for the circus

  • weekly parades in different cities 

India                                                                                                  Aug 2006-Jan 2007   

An Internship for 'Pravah' in New Delhi, India, an NGO that develops citizenship amongst children and young people and influencing young people in order to make a positive impact on society. Examples of work are below.

 

  • Rural exposure trip with young people in Delhi to live in a poor village in Rajastan for one week

  • Created forum theatre with a community in Assam who work in the tea fields

  • Created street theatre with farmers from the Hymalayas and rickshaw drivers in Delhi

  • Research on activist theatre groups for the website and complied a case study

  • Facilitated drama workshops for people in the community and staff at Pravah

  • Took part in a theatre of the oppressed festival organised by world famous company Jana Sanskriti
